"Portals and gates and the passages of transition"

Keep you pasted on the progress I am in a rush February has only 29 days....oops!!

Back in my Copenhagen Gallerie

It always takes a while to get over the jet lac. If I am not careful I paint all night and will never get in the right routine. In respect with our travel plans to vietnam it might not make much sense either to be on Danish time.
As I am having a show in Kolding in April I got to get to work and create.  I have ordered canvases and I believe this time around I will work on a theme similar to the one that was totally sold out last year. "Portals and gates and the passages of transition"

Aspen Glory

As I do not have a studio right now I am collecting imagery. I have not one this intentionally in a while. Actually it has been refreshing to look anew.  Maybe this is a way to merge old observation power with new insights.  It is like seeing the works in a new light. Or have I changed and can suddenly see what was there before but slipped away unnoticed due to the lack of my own observational limitations.

I saw my aspens in a new light! In the past Aspen trees or groves have been my love, as an organism and as a painting subject. Many of the paintings sold were not cataloged however there are samples of my progression along the way. The question arises: As I painted the elegant trees that way then, was it really what I perceived they looked like?   I would not paint them this way now. Am I influence by the zeitgeist of trees becoming trendy? As soon as somethings becomes fashionable I tend to loose interest. But wait....I had painted trees all my life there must be more!!!

In the last years I have painted approx. 500 paintings of trees, most them aspen. Let's see how the next 500 will develop with my new observational insights!!!!!

As I am going to be traveling to Copenhagen this week and then to vietnam I won't have time to paint but I will sharpen my senses, to become a better artist.

Moving out of my wonderful space in Los Alamos

I have not had time to paint for a few days...
I needed to move out of my wonderful studio/gallery space although not quite done yet... I so enjoy writing my blog and can get sidetracked from my moving objective;-).

Los Alamos, NM has been my home for the last 20 years and I have bee involved in the arts community as long as I lived here. In 1988  I moved to Los Alamos form Hamburg via Copenhagen to follow the love of my life.   That year I sculpted a bust of my husband a very true likeness. It was even mentioned in the local paper the Los Alamos Monitor...... Now 20 years later. The paper writes that the town is sad to see me leave.

I am not all gone as my affiliation with Fuller Lodge Art Center is going to continue and naturally over 50 households have my work hanging.  I can not let them hang either....

For beginners:  Los Alamos is the town the atom bomb was developed. Los Alamos National Laboratory changed it's name recently to national security LLC..... in light of homeland security. I however am also a habit animal and can not quite get used to the new term. (I have been here too long;-) The population of Los Alamos is made up of scientists, their spouses and support staff.  They want and claim to be cultured and open minded but the majority never really leaves the lab environment. Therefore they get a bit jaded and blind toward the rest of the world.  Art is the rest of the world.... Art education is a must in our schools as art is just as science pushing the envelope of our societal boundaries.
I thank the wonderful teachers whom have come by and are my friends, supporters and collectors.

Last minute artwork

So far in my career I have painted more then one painting a day.... well that is only half way true.
For example have 9 small frames ....I think of what to put in them....
ok I have made 9 collagraph plates at some point and ....I printed all nine of them at once  just one color...maybe 10 times.. there are already 90 small originals in the making!;-) not all of them deserve fame but most of them are frameable.
I pick the nicest one give it a wash of acrylic paint or watercolor...
sometimes more then just a bit of extra work to make it really look nice.
...put it in the frame  hang all 9 together and voila a very attractive unity.

Or it I do not have the frames I glue the images on small canvas!!!

cheers!

Networking

Networking works.

A dear friend and teacher of my kids has sent so many wonderful clients and collectors to me that I am thrilled. Every day someone whom she had talked to has come in the gallery and bought at least a little something. Thanks Karyl Ann!!!

I love monoprints as they are original art but I can price them as I please. The Los Alamos locals love sales, so this works great!
My work is now hanging at Aspen Copies.....Thanks James.

Printmaking in obsessive compulsive disorder

I am a printmaker and thought of my work being not otherwise exceptional.  Other than I love to work. However besides painting in acrylic, teaching and running two galleries I found myself counting my inventory.
Not only that I have sold on in the last 5 years over 1000 original works, I have about 300o left.

Here in Los Alamos in New Mexico I have my studio and in light of loosing my lease I had a sale of other and not so great work of mine to my students and collectors. ......  I sold in the last 2 weeks 18 large paintings, 23 smaller paintings and ....have not conted so many monoprints and collages....... oh yes and some bronze as well...
I just want to share with all of you artists that OCD is a blessing!!!!!!! several original works a day will feed you along the way!!!!
